Aquatic Aviation’s Professional Flyboarders/Instructors and Company Co-Founders Paul Bulka & Andrew Hickey were featured in a new Youtube series- #FiestaMovement; Ford Motor Company’s new online advertising campaign.
Created by Youtuber Mike Benson of Knife Show Inc., this video takes Flyboarding as a spectacle to a whole new level.
After Leonardo DiCaprio was recently seen Flyboarding off a friend’s boat in Spain, syndicate news show Inside Edition came to San Diego to interview Aquatic Aviation’s Andrew Hickey about Flyboarding and the safety of the sport. Hickey was able to showcase some Flyboarding tricks as well as show the Producer how to Flyboard first hand by teaching her to fly in a matter of minutes.
On August 8th, 2013 Aquatic Aviation Flyboarders Andrew Hickey and Paul Bulka were on the Travel Channel’s new show RIDE-iculous. The shoot took place in June and was for two whole days of Flyboarding. The first day was spent showcasing the Flyboard doing all the tricks Flyboard expert riders are known for such as dolphin dives, spinning dolphin dives, backflips, and corkscrews. The second day was spent teaching 4 people from www.thechive.com to Flyboard with great success!!

Two days before she was scheduled to Participate in the Ford SuperGirl Pro Surf Competition, the inspirational Bethany Hamilton came to Aquatic Aviation to try out the Flyboard. The Feature film “Soul Surfer” based on Bethany’s life tells a story of a young girl who has aspirations of becoming a professional surfer, but is dealt with a major setback when a shark attack leads to Bethany losing her left arm. The trauma from the event leads Bethany down a journey to overcome adversity and find her way back onto the water before realizing her dream of becoming a professional surfer as well as helping and being an inspiration to many all around the world.
Bethany’s surfing background meant that she was a fairly natural Flyboarder and was attempting dolphin dives and spins in her first lesson. Everyone at Aquatic Aviation would like to state that it was a honor to get to spend some time with an idol and a privilege teaching her to Flyboard!
Aquatic Aviation’s Professional Flyboarders recently performed for Hornblower Cruises & Events in the heart of San Diego Bay. The performance “WOW-ed” the crowd as they watched two men flying above water doing backflips, dolphin dives and spins on the Flyboard. The crowd were even treated to high 5′s from the performers who were able to get up close and personal to the boat. Some members of the crowd were so impressed by the show that they tipped the performers.
Aquatic Aviation is on 10 news with Joe (not so) Little. He came out to our location in Harbor Island to check it out. (link)
SAN DIEGO – Take a stroll along San Diego Bay and you may catch a glimpse of a new extreme watersport in action.
The sport is called “Flyboarding” and is brought to you by Aquatic Aviation. They’re opening a rental store this Saturday at San Diego Bay Adventures on Harbor Island.
The Flyboard crosses a wakeboard with a jet ski to produce a unique experience that lifts the ride 30-feet above the water, even allowing the rider to swim like a dolphin.
“Basically, all of the power comes through the jet ski, through [a] 54-foot hose, out of these two jets … This is where all the propulsion comes out,” Aquatic Aviation co-owner Andrew Hickey said while holding a Flyboard and pointing to two nozzles on each side of the board.
It’s the same technology used by the Jetlev in Mission Bay, which opened last month. The Jetlev is more of a jet pack on the rider’s back, while the Flyboard is attached to the rider’s feet.
But unlike the Jetlev, the Flyboard allows the rider to dive and swim like a dolphin.
“One of the coolest animals around the world is the dolphin. To be able to recreate what they do in the water is just a phenomenal feeling,” said Hickey. “We think it’s just going to bring a lot more people to San Diego, just to want to do this with us.”
Hickey said rookies, ages 14 to 70, can begin flying in less than five minutes and can swim like a dolphin their first day.
Each ride costs $149.
Aquatic Aviation was featured in the video on ESPN’s weirdest web stories!
We ask, and you deliver. Each day on “SportsNation” (4 p.m. ET, ESPN2), co-hosts Marcellus Wiley and Charissa Thompson run down the weirdest web stories submitted by viewers.
A new friend of ours, Ryan Dean, recently came out to do some Flyboarding with us and documented his awesome time on his Blog:
A couple of weeks ago, while in San Diego, I went Flyboarding. For those of you who don’t know, Flyboarding was developed by Zapata Racing in the Spring of 2011. It was introduced at the jet ski World Championship in China and created a huge buzz around the world.
Well of course I had to try this sport! Thanks to Aaron, Paul, Hickey and all the West Virginia boys from Aquatic Aviation, I was able to ride this INSANE machine. It’s powered by a water jet from a jet ski, with two under your feet and two smaller ones attached to your wrists. You use your feet and legs as well as your arms to remain stable and maneuver.
I can’t fully explain the great time I had in words, so I wanted to share the video evidence of my experience. I cannot wait to do this again!
